Thank you Mike for sending us a copy to read and review. Trying a new author is like trying on a new pair of shoes and I feel privileged that I try so many. I was most excited to see a new crime themed book grace my to be read pile. A book that opens with an intense and detailed fight, set the scene as we meet Jack Rhodes. Set in San Francisco, a criminal element surfaces and Jack is the man to go undercover. The drama starts when an early morning knock on the door, sensing danger he immediately executes martial art moves on the assailants. The woman in his bed was the reason for the unwanted visit and he discovers what she has on the attackers. Delving into the gangster element of the city and the dodgy business dealings to uncover the truth. The opening fight really did set the pace as this story moved quickly and succinctly. I always find it interesting when an Aussie author sets a story in another country. It is hard to make the setting and the cultural vibe feel authentic and this case I was pleased Mike nailed it. Drawing on his own knowledge of martial arts enhanced the drama when physical conflict erupted. Ponzi styled theft is so topical as is the prevalence of scamming in this digital world we live in. Jack was a likeable character and I Immediately conjured up my own image of this leading man and was excited to see he would return in another story. A great debut novel. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 stars Phil’s review #crimefiction #popularfiction #read #reading #authorsofinstagram #writersofinstagram #booksofinstagram #malewriters #aussiewriters #australianwriters #supportaussiewriters #book #bookgeek #bookstagram #bookblog #bookblogger #bookreview #bookreviewer #bookhoarder #booknerd #bookworm #booklover #bookobsessed #aussieauthorsupporter #aussieauthorsupporter #wordofmouthbooks #mikemackay #scamatoldriver
